The Austrian doctor and scholar, Franz Xaver Mayr (1875 -1965), created a particular abdominal massage, to be always matched with his dietary therapy and sulphated waters in order to achieve the good therapeutic results he had foreseen. This has to do with a delicate vibration massage over the intestines, that requires extreme sensitivity and many years of practice on the part of the operator. In fact, the hand doing the massage must be able, after a long apprenticeship, to localize the zone of the abdomen corresponding to the tracts of the intestines that are irritated, hypertonic or even spastic, and inversely, the other zones that are hypotonic, fatigued, flaccid, and drooping. In the first zones the peristaltic movements that move the food along the digestive tube – are too fast, so that the person tends to have diarrhea if the part affected is extensive. In the second zone instead, the peristalsis is too slow, and so the person suffers from constipation, in some cases hidden by a concurrency of diarrhea. This condition is more serious the longer the hypotonic tract involved. All this also underlines the diagnostic aspect of the Mayr massage. Given that the massage, besides being gentle, also has a stimulating action, it is obvious that the operator will have to dwell on the hypotonic zone, and must not massage the hypertonic areas. The Mayr massage has to be done once or twice a day for the entire duration of the therapy which lasts one and a half months on the average. Once the Mayr doctor, during the first days of the therapy, has identified the hyper – and hypotonic zones, the patient may continue to do the rest of the treatment with a special vibrating massager, in the hypotonic zones that the doctor will indicate.  Further information on the Mayr abdominal massage can be found in my italian paperback  and e-book “Dieta Mayr,” RED Publishers.

THE MAYR ABDOMINAL MASSAGE IS BOTH DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC!
